Smart Freight Centre and 123Carbon sign partnership to accelerate the adoption of in-sector emissions reductions

Schiphol-Oost, May 16th 2022

123Carbon and Smart Freight Centre are pleased to announce they have entered a partnership to accelerate the adoption of in-sector emission reductions, also referred to as carbon insetting. A consortium of market parties, led by Smart Freight Centre, is developing a multi-modal Guidance that is currently open for comments. This guidance will provide a robust set of guidelines for book-and-claim mechanisms within Transport. This Guidance is expected to be launched in the second half of 2022 and will address barriers for both energy suppliers and transport companies, allowing them to better allocate their carbon reductions to downstream supply chain partners, share their costs with a broader set of partners and realize more low carbon projects

Alan Lewis, Technical Director Smart Freight Centre: “For market action to lead to significant reduction in GHG emissions it is essential for companies like 123Carbon develop transparent, independent tools based on this guidance. We are looking forward to further expand this relationship with the common goal to ensure the market has the right solutions to achieve its Net zero goals.”

Jeroen van Heiningen, managing director 123Carbon: “Smart Freight Centre has taken a leading position by developing this much needed guidance. We are looking forward to incorporating this guidance into our carbon insetting platform and provide our clients with the assurance that they can safely and transparently share the impact of their Carbon reduction efforts.

Over the next couple of months, Smart Freight Centre and 123Carbon will explore additional initiatives that will drive the market for in-sector reductions and stimulate the adoption of this by all actors within the Transport value chain.
