CADO SAF Registry, 123Carbon and Assure SAF Registry Advance Integrity in SAF Markets through Completion of Interoperability Pilot

LEIDEN, Netherlands, Wednesday June 24th, 2026
The CADO SAF Registry, 123Carbon and Assure SAF Registry have successfully completed their interoperability pilot, marking a major step forward in strengthening the integrity of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) markets.
The pilot achieved the first-ever exchange of verified SAF environmental attributes across independent registries in a live transactional environment. This milestone demonstrates that interoperability between SAF registries is no longer conceptual but fully operational.
Through the pilot, SAF units issued in one registry were successfully checked, and where relevant, flagged if they existed in another registry. This diminishes double-counting and helps ensure that emissions reduction claims are credible, verifiable and protected against duplication.
“Completing this pilot shows that interoperability between SAF registries can be delivered in practice, not just in theory. As SAF markets grow, ensuring that environmental attributes are tracked and safeguarded across systems is essential. This builds confidence that emissions reductions are credible, verifiable, and protected against duplication, even as the market scales,” said Michael Schneider, Civil Aviation Decarbonization Organization (CADO) Executive Director
"This pilot proves that registries built on different technologies can still speak the same language when it comes to integrity. For 123Carbon, working with supply chain partners every day, that trust is what gives buyers and sellers the confidence to scale SAF transactions without fear of double-issuing. We see this as the first step toward an industry-wide standard, and we look forward to working with CADO, Assure, and other registries to make that a reality" said Jeroen van Heiningen, CEO and Founder, 123Carbon.
"Aviation decarbonization depends on trust in environmental attributes regardless of where they are issued, transferred, or retired. Our interoperability achievement demonstrates that independent platforms can coordinate effectively while preserving their autonomy, creating the foundation for a more connected global SAF ecosystem. As demand accelerates, the industry will increasingly rely on shared infrastructure that supports transparency, accountability, and seamless market participation, “ said Jessica Masters, SAF Director, 4AIR
Building on the success of the pilot, the partners will transition toward expanding operational interoperability checks of SAF attributes. This includes onboarding additional registries, further refining data standards, and strengthening governance and technical integration.
CADO, 123Carbon and Assure SAF Registry warmly welcome other SAF registries to join this interoperability initiative, as the partners work together to build a connected, trustworthy infrastructure for the global SAF market and beyond.
About the Pilot
Launched in early 2026, the pilot focused on aligning core data elements, shared terminology and technical specifications, while enabling secure and confidential cross-registry checks of SAF attributes between registries. It also tested common safeguards designed to prevent duplicative claims across systems.
The pilot demonstrated the feasibility of an open, decentralized approach to interoperability, where registries exchange information directly with one another while maintaining their independence.
This collaboration is underpinned by a legally binding interoperability framework, agreed by participating registries, which sets out the principles, technical standards, operational processes and dispute resolution mechanisms needed to support trusted data exchange.
About CADO
The Civil Aviation Decarbonization Organization (CADO) was created in March 2025 to maintain and operate the IATA-developed SAF Registry. It is a not-for-profit organization established under Canadian law with its headquarters in Montreal.
CADO’s mission is to unite stakeholders across the SAF value chain and provide essential SAF market infrastructure – such as the CADO SAF Registry - with a view to creating a global, liquid, transparent, and open SAF market in which all producers and airlines can participate. This is necessary to scale up SAF supply and achieve net-zero CO2 emissions from air transport by 2050.
About 123Carbon
Developed collaboratively with the industry, for the industry, 123Carbon’s platform is an independent integrated registry for the verification, issuance, management and allocation of Environmental Attribute Certificates (EAC’s) to downstream supply chain partners (forwarders, cargo owners, and corporates) across all modalities. For the SAF market, we provide a fully airline-branded solution and partner with Skymetrix (the leader in aviation fuel and cost management solutions, supporting 135+ airlines) to offer an integrated fuel solution for both kerosene and SAF.
